About

My name is Nadine Smith and perhaps like you, I feel the way things have been working in our world and society don’t work at all.

I have had a career spanning Whitehall, business and nonprofits and in each sector I have seen the same problems, confusion and disagreement about what matters, who matters and why, as well as a complete lack of faith and trust within organisations and between them.

So throughout my career I have worked to challenge myself and others in business, government and charities to stop being afraid of becoming the purposeful change makers they want to be.

I want to help you and your organisation reconnect to what matters to you, your partners and communities. There is so much untapped power and potential in people and places. When you lose sight of what matters to your workforce and communities, you lose legitimacy, relevance and things start to go wrong.

Purpose starts with you and your teams building stronger relationships outside the inner circle to gain insights that matter.  I will work with you to build coalitions and campaigns that have a purpose that matters to those you serve, that can achieve change that is right for the times and that also feels good.

I bring twenty years of experience to your organisation with a passion for inclusiveness, legitimacy and truth. I have set-up and led organisations that have been successful because they are not afraid to face what has not worked, or to hear what they can do better and to speak with conviction and courage. They are clear, focused and authentic but they never gloss over complexity or ignore nuances.

I can’t wait to work with you to help you and your teams know and fulfil their true purpose.

There is no time to wait. The world has changed, have you?

Nadine Smith Tedx talk

I first met Nadine near the start of the pandemic when we were trying to understand how people we support at Changing Lives who face multiple disadvantages in their lives are experiencing lockdown. She has been pivotal in helping us explore how we can listen better to people during their most challenging of times. She has helped us realise the power of deep listening and inclusive sense making. Nadine has helped us realise the potential of this process; what this might mean for democracy, social cohesion and changing power dynamics. Re-imagining how we can raise the voices of people who are so seldom heard has never been more important and we are so excited to continue this journey with her.

Laura Seebohm
Executive Director, Changing Lives

Nadine was a force for good in government, connecting ideas to people and creating compelling campaigns that shone a light on the stark inequalities of our country, as well as handling some very sensitive crises. She helped establish the UK’s first social mobility taskforce and coordinated across government on social exclusion. Her management of the Soham/Bichard Inquiry was an example of her tenacity, even in the most trying of situations, always under the pressure of the media but always leading with purpose and with the needs of the public in her head and in her heart.

John Toker
Former Director of Communications for Security and Intelligence, HM Government

Nadine has a wealth of experience in the private and public sectors. She has worked in North and South America, the Far East and Asia delivering for governments, presenting and speaking at international conferences pushing for change and influencing leaders to take action and connect to their purpose. She has experience at the highest level in UK government advising on communications and leading teams at the Cabinet Office and the Institute for Government. She combines pushing for clarity with kindness and humility. Ministers wanted her by their side and the media wanted her message. If anyone could get clarity in a mess, it was Nadine.

Former Director of Communications, Cabinet Office

Don’t wait for change, you are the change

I never saw myself as a change activist, I just always did and said what I felt was right yet every time I stood up and called for change everyone nodded, everyone seemed to take notice but then went back to their day job. I decided a new approach was needed.
